Melanie Huggard- RBM's official Administrative Assistant. She does much more than assist me with details, but also is running our editorial calendar and booking engagements.
My "Heart and Part":
I am currently serving RBM as Rebecca’s personal assistant, as well as some administrative duties for the team. I met Rebecca through a mutual friend. I saw Rebecca over the summer in July, and she was telling me about an event she wanted to put on in the town that I live in. I had offered to help her, as I have experience in event planning and I love helping people. After walking away from this encounter with her, I had said a prayer to God and asked, “I really want to help her with this event, and I would love to be her personal assistant.” I reached out to Rebecca in August and told her about my desire to be a personal assistant/event planner, and she shared with me how she had been praying for the help that an assistant would provide. So, we teamed up, and I have been with RBM since then.
I find all this very interesting because my mother died as a prostitute on the streets of Washington DC. She was trafficked by her boyfriend, through coercion, abuse and drugs. (Although they didn’t call it that back then.) My dad removed my sister and I from being exposed to the lifestyle and I hadn’t seen her while she was living the life. A couple of years into it, she passed from effects of heroin use. Because of this, I never completely dealt with the fact that my mom was a prostitute. This part of my story was more of a P.S. placed at the end of the letter of my life.
Now I have this wonderful opportunity to be a blessing to other women who are like my mom. But these women have made it out of the life through their brave choices. I am honored to be part of that. Some of the things that I love about Rebecca is that she is involved in several arenas of our culture; the personal, the governmental, the educational, as well as the religious. She is a force that this industry needs, and the powers of darkness can’t stop.
